"recession"This is something I don't understand....why do the city's services have to be cut back while my tax dollars are not? I am putting in more and more each 1/2 year to support the city and its services without major complaint mind you. I don't understand why sidewalk plowing and road maintenance, among other things have to now be restricted....where did the $$ come from previous to the recession if it didn't come from you and I?

I would say...when times were good City of Lebanon many projects were approvel, now times are bad City of Lebanon got caught w/there pants down.
City of Lebanon would like to known as the city of fountains, true the fountains $$'s come from gifts etc.,but in the long run the tax payers shall pay for up keep.
City of Lebanon known as the cross roads of New England...flag that hang on poles...take another look of tax payers money been spent around Corburn Park...green,and don't forget about Lebanon's master plan.
Maybe it's time cut were made at the higher levels.
Maybe it's time drop all special project and take care of the basic needs.
Maybe it's time Lebanon stop trying to keep up w/Hanover.
Maybe it's time all board members held some sort of insurance,so when projects etc. go wrong the tax payers wouldn't end up paying $$'s.

I would be willing to bet that just what they spent on fireworks would have paid the yearly salary of a city worker to clear the sidewalks in the winter. Aren't jobs more important than gunpowder in the sky?

I'd have to add that the state did provide a level of support for the services being provided by cities and that has dried up with the cutbacks on the state budget level. So with less income in total for the city, there is a need to cut back on expenses - and this means salaries and services. It seems to me to just come down to some basic arithmetic that the council is having to deal with.

Please check out my post earlier this morning to this forum under "General Comments" "Rainy day account."
