Afternoon Folks.
Years back the LPD had motorcycle for use....questions
1.Does the LPD still have motorcycle?
2.If LPD does indeed have motorcycle than why isn't it used? |

I remember years ago when I was a motorcycle owner. It was impossible to ride a motorcycle in ice and snow. Motorcycle tires are round in profile as the mortocycle has to be able to lean into turns. When you try to lean into turns on ice or snow... well you know what happens.
Seems to me a better solution for the Police Department here is to get Segways that are equipped with Snow Tires. |

Afternoon matthewota.
Your correct.
My thought was if they still have motorcycle/motorcycles than why aren't used...12A & 120 diring rush hours.
I've been riding dirt bikes/motorcycle since the late 60's and now trike. |

Greetings, Thomas and matthewota.
One of the issues is that modern policing requires a lot more paperwork than in the past. The upside is that onboard computers and other equipment now in our squad cars can communicate way more efficiently with each other and with other depts/agencies to run checks, process necessary reoorts & other papers more efficiently, etc.
The City Manager's cover memo to the Council for the 2010 budget mentions PD bicycle & foot patrols, reduced patrol vehicle idling, and other energy-conservation measures that also save money. They're looking at bulk purchase with better timing to save on fuel costs, too (also happening for other City vehicles).
Hoping this information is helpful to you,
Nicole
